Santa Goes Virtual and Delivers Holiday Joy With the Help of Sun Country Airlines

Dec 20, 2021

Sun Country Airlines and Make-A-Wish MN partner to make special deliveries to local wish children including virtual visits with Santa.

MINNEAPOLIS, December 20, 2021 Sun Country Airlines (NASDAQ: SNCY) and Make-A-Wish Minnesota partnered this week to spread a little holiday joy at the end of another challenging year for many local families.

Sun Country Airlines CEO Jude Bricker donned a Santa suit and spent an evening on Zoom visiting with local wish kids who were unable to visit the jolly old man in person this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier in the week, Sun Country employees dressed in festive gear were joined by the airline’s mascot, Sunny the Bear, to make special stops at the doorsteps of local Make-A-Wish families’ homes to share gifts full of surprises with the children.

The company and Make-A-Wish Minnesota usually hold an annual in-person event at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. This year would have been the fourteenth annual “Flight to the North Pole,” where wish kids and their families board a Sun Country aircraft for a magical “flight” to the North Pole, after which they return to the gate for a party and visits with Santa. The event is always a favorite for wish kids, their families, and Sun Country employees who volunteer their time to be a part of the festivities.

“Like last year, we’ve continued to face many of the same challenges that made it difficult to enjoy our usual celebration with ‘Flight to the North Pole,” said Sun Country Airlines CEO, Jude Bricker. “We were thrilled to work with our partners at Make-A-Wish Minnesota to find creative new ways to support their mission during this holiday season. Together we can help serve children with critical illnesses and continue the important work of Make-A-Wish during an especially hard time. Playing the role of Santa and being able to spend more time with these kids and their families was a true privilege.”

“The virtual Santa visits were such a fun, bright spot for Minnesota wish kids this year,” said Make-A-Wish events manager Elizabeth Roher who coordinated with families.  “Their smiles and laughter said it all! This holiday season, we are so grateful for our partnership with Sun Country, and for its generous air mile donations that make life-changes wishes come true.”

Sun Country provides flights for children with critical illnesses to help them safely arrive at their wish destinations and achieve their dreams. This year, Sun Country renewed their partnership with Make-A-Wish Minnesota with another three-year commitment to donate an estimated $720,000 worth of travel to accommodate every wish kid traveling anywhere the airline flies.
